What we collect

ORION WX collects only what is needed to provide the service:

• Account data — username, hashed password, and optionally your email address if you provide one for account verification
• Saved locations — place names and coordinates you choose to save
• Alert preferences — custom notification settings you configure
• Feedback — messages you submit through the feedback form
• App and security logs — request logs and error logs used to operate and secure the service; IPs are hashed before storage

What we do not do

Your data is not sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. ORION WX does not track you across other sites or build ad profiles.

Weather and data sources

ORION WX aggregates data from several external sources to build its weather picture:

• National Weather Service (NWS / NOAA) — official alerts, forecasts, and observations
• Radar providers — RainViewer and/or Tomorrow.io (beta) for radar imagery
• Traffic provider — TomTom for incident and flow data
• Environmental APIs — AirNow (air quality), USGS (water/earthquake), and space weather sources where applicable

Your location is used to fetch relevant weather data. Saved locations are stored in your account; unsaved location lookups are used only to fetch data and are not stored.

AI answers (Ask ORION)

When you use Ask ORION, your question and relevant weather context (current conditions, active alerts, radar status) are sent to Google Gemini to generate an answer. Do not include personal or sensitive information in your questions.

Responses are generated by AI and are informational only. Official NWS alerts and emergency guidance always take priority.

Safety disclaimer

ORION WX is a weather intelligence tool, not an emergency notification system. The National Weather Service is the official authority for life-safety weather warnings. Always follow NWS guidance and local emergency management instructions.

Data retention

Account data is retained while your account is active. Signed-in users can delete their account and associated ORION WX data from Account > Privacy & Security. A public deletion request path is also available at /account/delete. A minimal pseudonymous deletion event may be retained for up to 30 days for security and audit purposes; it does not retain your email, username, password, saved locations, routes, preferences, prompts, or push subscription data.
